When we set out looking for the right band to launch our newest festival element, the Festival club we were looking for a band to inject the legendary ‘craic’ into El Feile and one that would capture the imagination of the locals. The Dubliners have a massive following in Barcelona and the DCWB who bring their own style and energy to the classic ballads we know are going to go down a storm.
They are in town for the duration of El Feile and will tie the whole event together. Expect a lot of surprises in the festival club which will turn the George Payne Irish Bar into one of the most legendary Irish Seisúins ever outside Ireland. While the entire Irish music industry is gathering in tribute to show their love to the great man Ronnie in his fight against cancer the DCWB will devote a set of their Friday night performance to the music of Ronnie Drew.
DCWB are:
Ger Loughlin – Guitar/ vocals
Ciaran Kenny – Bodhran / Vocals
Bob Staines - Guitar/ vocals
Jason Tingey – Banjo
Larry Shaw - Fiddle
Since forming just over 5 years ago, Dublin City Workingman's Band have had a rapid ascent and are now recognized as one of the best folk/ballad bands to come out of Ireland in recent years.
Their name was taken from the old City of Dublin Workingmen’s Club (Europe’s oldest workingmen’s club) where the lads began with a weekly music session in 2003.
With a large repertoire of Irish ballads and their high energy performances, they soon became very busy on the Dublin pub scene throughout 2003 and 2004.
When the legendry Ronnie Drew joined them onstage for a show in 2004 it opened the door to an international audience, taking them out of the Dublin pubs and onto concert hall and festival stages in Europe.
The lads will play at the EL FEILE festival club on March 13th, 14th, 15th and will headline the Numancia Street Party on the 16th.
The band is back in the Hammersmith Irish Centre London for St. Patrick’s night, March 17th with their high octane mix of Ballads, Trad and craic.
Their debut album, "The Frost Is All Over", where they were joined by Kila front man Ronan O’Snodaigh on Bodhran, is available to buy online at www.workingmansband.com.
