Unfortunately after 7 memorable years as the biggest Irish and Cultural event on the peninsula we have decided to call it a day on St Patricks week activities as I am emigrating for the most part of the year to Brazil so will not be available in the early part of the year when the work really kicks in, in preparing for the festival as it was
Make no mistakre it was a battle over the years and a big thank you goes out to all the people who gave of their time voluntarily, without any reward except to see events run as smooth as possible and partake in making special things happen on what were always very tight budgets. Also huge thanks to Culture Ireland and our many sponsors over the years without whom nothing would have been possible. We do hope you all got something from it. We paid almost €200k to artists over the years and succeeded we think in what we set out to which was to offer a different slant to the many stereotypes both positive and negative at that time of year and build real bridges between Catalonia and Ireland.
We are not completely done however and are currently shifting our attention to a Bloomsday event which will take place under the El Féile brand on the weekend of June 16 - 19. Last year Dublin was awarded by UNESCO the title of 'City of literature' , one of only four in the world. The twinning of Dublin and barcelona was concluded in 2009 and we want to make an event to recognise all of these connections.
A wonderful collective of people, fans of Ulysses, literature and all things Irish culture are coming together to work on the concept and it promises to be an entirely unique, organic, interactive and ego free event so if you feel it is something you would like to be part of then please drop a mail to firstname.lastname@example.org
Undoubtedly the big Irish news this month is the visit of Ireland´s President, the very gracious Mary Mc Aleese and we want to welcome her to Barcelona. At a time of so much turmoil in Irish politics in Ireland it is a moment to really appreciate Áras an Uachtaráin.
If anyone is interested in any matters regarding El Feile just drop us a mail. It has 8 years hard fought for history in Spain and it could be interesting for someone to keep things moving for Paddy´s week activities.
